Six thousand people have now signed an online petition to bring back the American Adventure theme park.

The Derbyshire attraction closed in 2006 following financial struggles.

The petition was started earlier this year by Declan Salmon who used to go to the theme park as a child.

He said: “I am absolutely over the moon with how the petition has been received. I didn’t expect it to reach 100, let alone more than 6,000.

“The American Adventure was a big part of my childhood and to see it rebuilt would be a dream come true.

“If it does reopen in the future, it will attract so many visitors and it will be a huge boost to the community and for the UK not just Derbyshire.”

He suggested that new attractions could be built as well as new roller coasters, food outlets, gift shops and pubs.

Little remains at the site of the former theme park in Shipley.

The land has been earmarked for 300 new homes.
