FORMER HIGH Peak Mayor Jean Wharmby was on hand to officially open the recently refurbished Peak Dale Sports Pavilion.
Cllr Wharmby, who was succeeded as Mayor at the annual meeting of High Peak Borough Council on Tuesday, attended Saturday's opening in one of her final engagements in the post.

Wormhill Parish Council secured over £23,000 for the project from the Derbyshire Aggregates Levy Grant Scheme with additional money and project management provided by Tarmac.

Parish council clerk Barry Peirson said: "We had representatives from the county council, the borough council, local residents, three of the local football clubs and Tarmac directors turned out in force.

"Even the project officer who has now retired from Tarmac and we are very grateful to them, everybody was very, very impressed with the standard of the workmanship at the Pavilion which is an asset to the community. It is the best in the county."

The facility is available for hire by a variety of groups from sports groups to mums and toddlers groups.

Anyone who is interested in hiring the sports pavilion is asked to contact Wormhill Parish Council on 01298 871023.
