BUXTON police have made 19 arrests for offences of burglary, robbery, theft, handling stolen goods and drugs possession as part of an ongoing operation.
Inspector Andy Colledge "I am delighted with the results so far. This initiative has enabled us to focus attention on those individuals who we believe are responsible for the majority thefts and burglary committed in Buxton."

Launched on April 7 O
peration Elverson focuses on those areas of crime which have not shown a reduction compared with the previous year.

"Our intention is to keep the operation running for a further month. I would ask any members of the public who have information about crime in Buxton to ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111," said Insp Colledge.

Six addresses have been searched and property recovered from locally committed offences including house burglary.

Insp Colledge said "Buxton does not suffer the large amounts of crime you would associate with a city area but we should not be complacent.

"I urge members of the public to ensure their property is not left in view in their car and check that both car and house doors are properly secured.

"It sounds like obvious advice but every week we have reports that property is stolen from insecure homes and cars."
