2008 sees 25 years of work in the community by New Mills Volunteer Centre – and a number of activities are being planned to mark the milestone.
Since 1983, the centre has rapidly developed into a focal point for supporting isolated and less able people in and around the town.

The Volunteer Centre recently held its 24th Annual General Meeting at their Union Road premises when outgoing Chairman, Roy Bickerton, who has been in office for the past nine years, said:

"I am pleased with the progress the organisation has made since its start in 1983 and I am certain that the success will continue."

He also thanked the Board of Trustees, Staff and volunteers for their continuing efforts in helping and supporting an increasing number of older people in the district.

Recent financial cutbacks had led to worry that local needs could not be met, but help from the Lloyds TSB foundation means a new member of staff can be recruited, newly elected Chair of the Board, Judy Morris, said.

Anyone with a few hours to spare is welcome to join in the celebrations.

To find out more call Dorothy Scapens, Centre Manager, 01663 744196.
