THE SPIRIT of Sir Henry Wood comes to New Mills on September 6 with a Proms in the Park concert in High Lea Park starting at 7pm.
New Mills Town Council have organised this evening of music which is to be performed by Arnfield Brass Band from Tintwistle.

The concert is free and everyone is welcome to come along, bring a rug or deckchair to sit on and enjoy a evening of Proms
music including all the favourites like the Hornpipe, Jerusalem and Pomp & Circumstance Number 1.

Liberal Democrat Councillors Steve Sharp and Alistair Stevens have been the driving force for this venture.

Steve, who has played the cornet for over 30 years, has organised the band, obtained sponsorship to pay for the band and worked closely with the Bonfire Committee who are running a bar for the evening to raise funds.

Steve said: "I hope the weather holds up as this should a be a fantastic event for everyone of any age group can come along.

"If it's a success we could look to bring more music to the town; it shows that the council really wants to do something for the community as a whole.

Alistair adds " I am delighted to be part of this prestigious event – it should be a great evening,.

"The fact we have gained sponsorship means it is being run at no cost to the council and residents and visitors can all come along for free.
