A NEW Mills businessman has been given the green light to convert a former hairdressing salon into a sandwich shop and cafe.
As reported in the Advertiser, Ramnik Shah had struggled to find an alternative use for the premises on Low Leighton Road.

But members of High Peak Borough Council's Development Control Committee approved the latest development.

Adrian Fisher, Head of Planning and Development Control, said the main issue was traffic, but as the hours of operation were to be limited to the day time, the Highway Authority had no objections.

Neighbours were worried about car parking, and Committee Chairman Cllr David Mellor said: "There is competition for parking there in the week."

But Cllr Emily Thrane said when parking enforcement powers pass to local authorities in November it would make life easier.

The sandwich shop and cafe will be allowed to operate seven days a week from 7.30am to 5pm.
