MUSIC was in the air last Saturday evening in New Mills, with the first ever Proms in the Parks concert by Arnfield Brass Band of Tintwistle.
The event organised by New Mills Town Council was the idea of councillor Steve Sharp. who plays cornet for Arnfield Brass.

Fortunately weather kept dry and around three hundred people came along to this very successful event.

Steve joked: "I mu
st be to only politician who really has blowing my own trumpet! Being more serious it was great to see people come out and support this new venture, I would hope this is the start of regular events by the Council to bring musical evenings to the park.

"The band played very well playing a variety of novelty pieces, a few sing-a-longs and the standard proms music which was to be thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. I would like to give special thanks to both Geoff Lawton who runs the carnival and Cllr Kevin Hawley who gave a lot of time and effort to ensure this project was a great success," he said.

Adrian Loader, Musical Director of the band, said: "It was a privilege to play at such a special event, the setting was beautiful and the audience very welcoming.

"The band had been rehearing for a number of weeks and it really showed with the performance on the night. We would be delighted to be invited back and play in New Mills again."

The council always welcome suggestions for future events. If anyone has any ideas, they can contact the Town Hall or one of the local councillors.
