NEW MILLS' police chief has denied there will be any reduction in service as a result of local restructuring.
Changes later this year will see policing in the New Mills area fall under the control of Glossop. Currently, New MIlls is linked in with the Chapel-en-le-Frith section.

Addressing a meeting of New Mills Town Council on Monday, Inspector Tracy Lew
is said: "During the restructuring, New Mills will retain its existing Safer Neighbourhood staff.

"An advantage will be that this area is going to have another Safer Neighbourhood sergeant who will be based here in New Mills.

"The message I am trying to give is that it is good news. Hopefully you will see change for the better."

Cllr Lance Dowson raised concerns that if resources became stretched, it would effectively lead to New Mills losing out.

But Insp Lewis said: "I have been given assurances that a car will be dedicated to New Mills during a course of duty. They will be sent over here to spend their day here."

She added that Chapel-en-le-Frith would be available to provide cover, if resources became stretched.

New Mills Town Council has requested to be included in discussions when the changes are reviewed after six months.
