NEW MILLS Mayor Alistair Stevens will cut the ribbon to officially open St George's Parish Church's newly refurbished parish office on Sunday.
The makeover, part of a programme to provide more efficient services for people in New Mills, has included a complete redecoration and new soft furnishings.

Items of surplus furniture and technical equipment have been donated by various local chur
ches, businesses and other supporters.

"We are grateful to Providence United Reform Church, The Revival Church, Avatek and New Mills Heritage Centre for their generous help," said Fr John Baines, Vicar of New Mills. "Because we provide a valuable service to older people through our Friday Luncheon Club, we were also eligible to receive items from Sett Valley House when it closed. We are very grateful to the Welfare Committee for those."

The grand opening will take place during a coffee session in The Parish Hall, on Church Lane, at 11am, following on from the morning service of sung communion at 9.30am.

Also being launched is the new parish website www.newmillschurch.co.uk, which will contain useful information about the church's worship and activities.

As part of the celebration weekend, the church will be holding its Gift Day on Saturday, which offers an opportunity for local people to make a donation.

Fr Baines added: "We are the Parish Church, and that is a big responsibility. To complete our programme of improvements is beyond the resources of the members of St George's alone.

"We are seeking partners such as English Heritage to help keep the Parish Church in good repair. We also rely on the support of the New Mills community. Many people have already given money to our roof appeal.

"We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who are helping us in this important work."
