Mum's praise for surgeons

A NEW MILLS mother has organised a family fun day to raise funds for the specialist unit which is to carry out vital surgery on her 13-month-old son.
Ethan Shufflebotham suffers from a condition called Trigoncephaly, which has resulted in sutures in his skull fusing together prematurely, causing an abnormality at the front of the skull. The condition is rare and thought to affect one person out of every 1,000.
Ethan is due to undergo a major eight-hour operation at Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital on May 19, when specialists will correct the deformities of the bones.
And as a show of gratitude to the hospital's specialist Craniofacial Unit, mum Tracy Shufflebotham will be holding a family fun day at New Mills Football Club, Church Lane, this Saturday (May 10), from 11am onwards.
"Because Ethan was having this operation, I thought it would be nice to hold a charity fun day to raise a bit of money for the Craniofacial Unit. They do such a good job," said Tracy, 43, of The Ridgeway.
"I am hoping to raise around £2,000, and would just like to say a huge thank-you to all the shops and businesses that have donated gifts and prizes to our cause."
Attractions at the fund-raising day will include a kids penalty shoot-out competition against New Mills FC's four goalkeepers, a table top raffle and tombola, refreshments, face painting and male leg and chest waxing. Tracy will also be getting in on the action by having her head shaved.
Hot and cold food will be available during the day, and local band The Lynk will be playing live in the marquee, followed by a disco in the evening.
