COUNCILLORS in New Mills were given assurances that changes to the police sections will not have a negative impact on local policing.
Sgt John Bowman, from the North Section said the Safer Neighbourhood Team would see and increase in the number of PCSOs to three with Lee Baker and Matt Hill joining Will Brockett. He said officers manning the New Mills response car would be based in the police station in New Mills.

"It is only half a mile further from Glossop than it is from Chapel. I am sure you will see no negative impact at all. The level of service you get from the neighbourhood teams will be improved in terms of extra staff. We do appreciate that there are three relatively diverse communities in New Mills, Birch Vale and Hayfield and we want to build links in all three."

Members of New Mills Town Council asked to be involved in a review of the changes in six months time.

Cllr Lance Dowson said it was not the distance that was a concern but the terrain – particularly in bad weather.
