TWO talented youngsters from Birch Vale hope to hit the right note with judges after they sung their way into the regional final of national talent show Idol 2008.
Neighbours Shelby Farmer, 12, and Calvin Broche, 18, gave great individual performances to beat thousands of other entrants – and are one impressive performance away from making it to the Grand National Final, and £25,000 in prizes.

They compete at the Willows in Salford on Sunday hoping to get to the televised final in Plymouth.

Chapel High School pupil Shelby performed in Annie, as Jemima in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Manchester Palace Theatre and in The Sound of Music at Buxton Opera House.

Calvin, who sings and plays guitar, is studying music technology at Aquinas College in Stockport.

Shelby and Calvin are hoping for local support on Sunday as their success will be determined by the audience on the day who get to cast two votes.

Heidi Anne Burford from Hayfield, seen in the Advertiser a few weeks ago, also made it through to Sunday's regional finals.
