A NEW MILLS man has been honoured at a special event to thank the region's most dedicated life-savers.
David King has potentially helped save the lives of more than 200 patients in the North West since he started donating blood on his 25th birthday.

Now aged 63, the retired university lecturer said: "If I needed blood I would be prepared to accept it and as such I should be prepared to donate."

He was presented with his award at Lancashire Cricket Club by blood donor recipient Rachelle Whalley, who underwent a transfusion while pregnant with her first son.

Rachel Hollingworth, spokesperson for the National Blood Service, added: "Donors like David are very special, and we'd like to thank him on behalf of all the patients who have benefited from his kindness."
