SEVEN intrepid New Mills walkers are preparing to scale the UK's three highest mountains in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Ced Hainsworth, Steve Salmon, Ian Littlewood, Mark Kirby, Sandy McIntyre, Brian Pennington and Phil Ashton plan to climb Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in the space of 30 hours, starting on August 29.
"So much stamina will be required, but I think it will be the best thing I have ever done," said Phil, who with the others is undergoing intensive training.
"We chose Cancer Research UK because I lost my dad to cancer, although we all agreed that it was a very important charity to support."
Although Phil has scaled Ben Nevis in the past, and Sandy has conquered all three, the walkers face unpredictable conditions.
"Ben Nevis will probably be down to minus five when we get to the top, Snowdon will perhaps be slightly milder, but Scafell is a bit of an unknown. We are all prepared to get wet," added Phil.
Each walker is looking to raise around £400, and the group have already been supported by sponsorship from The Royal Oak in New Mills and donations from its customers.
Anyone else who would like to show their support for the team can contact Phil on 07775 630815.
