* THE RENT charged to High Peak Community Arts Project for the use the ground floor of High Lea Hall looks set to increase.
New Mills town councillros, who were told there had been no increase in almost 20 years, are looking at putting up the yearly rent which is currently £1,750.
Negotiations are continuing but members agreed that a figure of 50 per cent of the rateable value of the property would not be unreasonable.
Discussions on the increase, which could see rent more than treble, are ongoing. Any increase is likely to be phased.
Cllr Tony Ashton said there were questions over how long the roof was going to last: "We have to be very careful here about how much financial burden we are going to put on residents."
