A TOTAL of 16 New Mills groups have shared £2,500 in grants from New Mills Parade and Fete Committee.
As a result of another successful event, which took place in June, a record amount of money was raised, and the Committee were able to hand out £2,500 at their annual presentation evening held at New Mills Town Hall.

Combined with donations to other charities and voluntary organisations that have been made in recent months means that the total amount of money raised for good causes this year tops that of previous years.

The groups that received donations on the night were: New Mills Youth & Community Centre £200, Newtown Primary School £200, The Hangout £100, New Mills Primary School Association £200, New Mills & District Volunteer Centre £100, New Mills 'Snowball' Committee £50, Blythe House Hospice £150, High Peak Area Age Concern Befriending Service £100, New Mills School Association £100, Birch Vale & Thornsett Cricket Club £150, New Mills Bowls/Tennis/Cricket Club £150, New Mills Bonfire Committee £200, St. Mary's RC Primary School £200, Thursday Club/New Mills Social Club £150, 1st New Mills Cubs £200 and the Thursday Night Thing (TNT) at the Revival Church £200.

Other groups to have benefited from this year's event are New Mills Festival, High Peak Gymnasts and St. John Ambulance.

Jeff Lawton, chairman of the Parade and Fete Committee, said bids that benefitted the whole community are selected, with this year donations being used for a wide range of purposes, including purchasing a sewing machine for New Mills School, a digital camera for New Mills Volunteer Centre, outdoor seating for Blythe House Hospice and New Mills Primary School and a table tennis table for New Mills Youth Club.

Jeff thanked all those who had contributed to the bucket collection or who had supported the event in some other way.

He also thanked all those who had assisted with the Presentation Evening, notably New Mills Town Council.
