1st Taxal (Whaley Bridge)
A group of 22 Scouts and Explorers from 1st Taxal returned recently from a week's summer camp at th
e "Butcher's Coppice" Scout campsite on the Dorset coast near Bournemouth.
The group had a busy week, with both daytime and evening activities. They visited The New Forest with its wild ponies, went ten pin bowling and went swimming in a chilly Bournemouth sea. Evening activities on the camp included climbing, shooting and trampolining. Apart from one very impressive rainstorm the weather was hot and sunny throughout the seven day camp and a good time was had by all. Planning for next year's camp is already under way.

1st Chapel
In recent weeks most young people in Chapel have been enjoying their summer holiday from school and Scouting.
However at the beginning of August 15 young people and six leaders from Chapel attended the Essex International Jamboree near Clacton on Sea. The group spent a week camping near the Essex coast and participated in a great number of interesting and exciting activities. Scouts had a go at climbing and abseiling, air-rifle shooting and archery, quad bike and go-kart driving, canoeing and sailing and a whole range of other challenges.
They have now finished for the summer but are looking forward to a new term from September when a new Scout Leader will be taking over from John Read as he is moving to pastures new in Lancaster.
For more information about Scouting in Chapel please email chapelscouts@yahoo.co.uk.

1st Buxton (Silverlands)
1st Buxton are celebrating 100 years of Scouting. They had a very successful buffet and disco in June and held an Open Day in July at the headquarters (Silverlands).
3rd Buxton (Harpur Hill)
The Scouts held their summer camp at Kibblestone International Scout Camp in Staffordshire and enjoyed some mixed weather, typical of this summer.
They were able to take part in outdoor activities such as abseiling, canoeing, raft building and they visited the Wedgewood Visitors Centre, where they made their own pots.
The group would like to thank the leaders for giving up a week of their own time to run the camp and providing the youngsters with a great experience.
A new term is upon them and already the Beavers are planning outdoor cooking at Gradbach, the Cubs are looking forward to a weekend's camp at Linnets Clough and the Scouts are entering two teams in the Border Hike walking competition to be held at Gradbach.
For further details about the group, call Mark Rushworth, Group Scout Leader on 01298 72038 / 07949 965194 or email 3rdbuxtonGSL@peakland.co.uk.
14th Buxton (Burbage)
Burbage Group do not meet during the school holidays. On their return they are looking forward to their annual camp at Linnets Clough, where the theme will be the Olympics. They are planning a programme which hopefully will include a visit to the Buxton Mountain Rescue Centre and later on in the year they are joining the whole District on a trip to a Space Centre.

17th Buxton (Fairfield)
17th Buxton (St Peters) Fairfield Scouts had their summer camp near Bournemouth in August. The camp featured a number of activities from climbing, mountain biking, archery, ski-bobs, some sunny trips to the beach where they hunted for fossils and a last-minute visit to the cinema during a torrential downpour.
This sets them up for next terms packed programme before their Christmas camp in December. As well as teaching traditional scouting skills they look forward to a number of offbeat evenings. This follows the successful July evening programme where Scouts bravely had to feel the hidden item.
If you wish to know more about 17th Buxton, please contact Ken Swift (Group Scout Leader) 07973684707 for further details

High Peak Scout Fellowship
High Peak Scout Fellowship have recently gone on the prowl for new members. The Fellowship is a body of old Scouters, current Scouters, or just people who want to help out the Scout Movement but cannot commit week on week. Recently they have helped out at various Groups across the District by running evenings for them, or by just been on hand to help out. If you want to join, then please contact the Secretary, Lance Davis on lance@chapelscouts.org.uk.

Gradbach Scout Camp
The campsite has been very busy over the summer holidays with over 18 groups visiting for their summer camps. They have taken part in activities ranging from caving to climbing and trips to Alton Towers to visiting Danebridge Fishery, where they fished for their own trout, which they later cooked for their evening meal on open fires. During September the site will be holding its Border Hike walking competition, for Scouts & Explorer Scouts. Now in its 27th year, it now attracts around 40 competing teams from across the UK including Norfolk, Essex & Lancashire. Each team has to navigate its own way through some glorious countryside and along the way carry out activities to test their Scouting knowledge & problem solving skills. For further details please visit the website at www.gradbachscoutcamp.org.uk.
