FAIRFIELD WI's first meeting of the year began on a sad note when members were informed of the loss of founder member Mary Rawlinson.
Thanks were given to Di Cockram for the Carol Service, Kay Clarke for the New Mills outing and Jean Lee for the Christmas Dinner.

All events were very successful, especially the Carol Service when the committee members provided an alternative nativity performance!

New craft events are planned, including watercolour painting, cross-stitch and ceramic painting. There will be a Spring/Easter cardmaking event on March 16.

A visit to Hopton snowdrops has been arranged and village walks will resume in the summer months.

Mrs Jennie Ainsworth gave a talk and slideshow on Pub Names and their origin and meanings, which included some very unusual ones.

The speaker next month will be David Alsop who will talk about Alpine Flowers.

Two teams have been raised for the County Quiz is March and the film evening showing "Mamma Mia" is greatly anticipated.

A delegate will attend the Spring Council Meeting in Chesterfield, along with several Fairfield members.
