Youth take centre stage at Arts Centre

YOUNG stars in the making are taking to the Pavilion Arts Centre stage for the latest Kaleidoscope theatre productions.

Following performances of literary classic The Canterbury Tales by the Youth Theatre, this weekend it is the turn of the Intermediate Theatre Company (ages 11 to 13) who present The Odyssey on Friday November 30 and Saturday December 1, at 7.30pm.

It tells the epic tale of Odysseus and his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. Confronted by natural and supernatural threats, Odysseus must use all his strength, courage and wit to overcome adversaries such as Circe, Polyphemus the Cyclops, the mighty Poseidon, the beautiful goddess Calypso, the sirens and many others in order to safely reach his homeland.

This will be followed by performances of The Keeper of the Tales by the Junior Theatre Company (ages eight to ten), on Friday December 7 at 7pm and Saturday December 8 at 3pm.

The Keeper of the Tales invites audiences to the bazaar, where a wise old beggar journeys on a magic carpet ride to remember and along the way gives a spoilt princess more than she bargained for. Featuring stories from 1001 Arabian Nights, such as The Husband & The Parrot, The Donkey Driver, The Two Thieves and The Fisherman and The Genie, The Keeper of the Tales is filled with laughter, love and timeless lessons.

Tickets, priced £7, are available on 0845 127 2190 or at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
