Despite torrential rain, more than 100 people turned out for the first Chinley Village Games.

They competed in a mini family-friend decathlon that included welly-wanging, obstacle races and tug-of-war on Saturday.

More than 20 brave runners took part in the downhill-only mile long fell race – marshalled by volunteers including the scouts.

Money raised from donations, a barbecue and bar will go to Chinley Community Association.

Village Games Organiser Hayley Lever said: “A massive thanks to everyone who helped.

“Thanks also to those who came, competed, laughed, fell, jumped, shot, threw, tugged and ran and made it the first of many brilliant Village Games Days to come.”

Fell Race Director Nikalas Cook said: “Despite atrocious conditions on top of Chinley Churn, turnout was brilliant, spirits were high and the atmosphere was great.”

In its first year the Village Games’ team has developed clubs, activities, and events with 50 communities in Derbyshire.
