Peak District beats Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District in visitor poll

They wish they were here... The Peak District’s place in the super league of UK tourism destinations has been confirmed with the news that it has been voted among the top three favourite British holiday locations in a prestigious national awards scheme.

Only Cornwall proved a more popular choice for expert judges and readers in that category in the Countryfile Magazine Awards 2012, announced on Friday.

The Peak District fought off stiff opposition from eight other destinations, including the Cotswolds and the Yorkshire Dales, to scoop second spot ahead of the Lake District in third – and official tourist board Visit Peak District & Derbyshire is delighted.
