Here’s some classic video of Buxton’s dramatic - but remarkably familiar - skyline dating back to around the turn of the 20th century.

The footage, by pioneering commercial film makers Mitchell and Kenyon, is uploaded on the British Film Institute (BFI) Youtube page and forms part of its National Archive.

Circa 1900, the film is dominated by many of the spa town’s landmarks in all their heritage glory - the Crescent, Devonshire Dome and Palace Hotel among the most revered.

Note also the twin Buxton Railway Stations, the part of which only one now remains.
