In that time, the ancient parish of Chapel-en-le-Frith has probably been subject to more physical changes than in any comparable period of time in its long history, particularly as the result of approval for the construction of more than 900 new houses.

The book makes 90 comparisons in words and photographs between old and new Chapel. Although readers will be able to track the many changes that have taken place over the last 100 years, they will also be able to appreciate that the Old Town area around the Parish Church and Market Place has remained largely unaltered in general appearance, as have most of the surrounding hamlets.

The book also covers the drawing up of the ‘Neighbourhood Plan’ that now forms a framework for development in Chapel for the next 15 years.

• Published by Amberley Publishing, it is priced £14.99.
