Thriller classic for Tidza
A CLASSIC tale of murder and deception comes to Tideswell this week when Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution is performed by Tideswell Community Players and Buxton Drama League.
Witness for the Prosecution had phenomenal success on the London and Broadway stages before being made into the famous film starring Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton, directed by Billy Wilder. It has remained a firm favourite ever since.
Wealthy widow Emily French has been murdered. Leonard Vole has been arrested for the crime and only Sir Wilfred Robarts QC, his barrister, stands between him and a death sentence after his trial at the Old Bailey. Vole's alibi is provided by his loving wife, Romaine, a German refugee. Will Sir Wilfred's skills be enough to convince the jury of Leonard's innocence? Come and judge for yourself and be prepared for some big surprises along the way.
Witness for the Prosecution comes to Tideswell after three very successful nights at Buxton Opera House and is directed by Anthony Gill.
It is the first co-production between Tideswell Community Players and Buxton Drama League.
The two groups frequently exchange actors, but cooperation like this can make ambitious projects, such as this play, possible.
Performances are on Friday and Saturday of this week at 7,30pm at the Theatre at the URC Hall on Parke Road in Tideswell.
