The giants of jazz return

TWO OF the greatest jazzmen Britain has ever produced, Kenny & Acker, make a welcome return to Buxton Opera House on Thursday November 12 at 7.30pm, with their show Back to Back, proving that they really are Giants of Jazz.

Mr Acker Bilk – honoured with an MBE in 2001 – began his career in the Ken Colyer Band, before forming the Bristol Paramount Jazz Band.

In 1961 Acker recorded his signature tune Stranger on the Shore, which stayed in the UK charts for an amazing 55 weeks. With his trademark famous bowler hat and waistcoat and fantastic sound, Acker continues to delight audiences.

Kenny Ball, meanwhile, has flown the flag for his particular brand of traditional Jazz all over the world for more than 40 years.

It is a tribute to his stamina and musical integrity that Kenny & His Jazzmen are as popular today as they were in 1960 when they had their first chart hit with Samantha, followed by a staggering fourteen top 30 records including Midnight in Moscow.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets for Kenny & Acker – Back to Back are priced at 16 and 18 and discounts are available.
