Showcasing the town's best musical talent
AN exciting new group – specially formed for Fringe30 – makes its debut on the Buxton music scene on Friday July 10.
Buxton Minstrels is a roving group of players calling on the services of some of Buxton’s brightest musicians – young and not-so-young – alike.
The group offers a showcase to some of the town’s best, young musical talent by giving them the chance to perform both as soloists and as part of a small group, to a wider audience.
This year’s concert features Maddy Brown (violin), Ailsa Hoyle (violin), Caz Sampson (viola) and Miriam Brown (cello) with Alison Bletcher, Andrew Cummings and Martin Bisknell.
The group is the brainchild of local musician Martin Bisknell and music teacher Alison Bletcher, who were keen to bring the talents of the young players to a wider audience – and to stretch them musically.
“This concert will be a real mix of styles – from Baroque classics by Bach and Teleman through to jazz classics from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, as well as some less well known items,” said Martin.
Whatever your musical tastes, this concert is bound to send you away happy.
Tickets, available in advance from The Violin Shop on Scarsdale Place, Buxton, or on the door, cost just 6 for adults, 5 concessions and children get in free.
