Library celebrations across county
Make a date in your diary to help celebrate National Libraries Day in Derbyshire and you could be in with the chance of winning a prize.
Saturday, February 4, is National Libraries Day and anyone who borrows a book from one of Derbyshire County Council’s libraries will be entered into a free draw to win book tokens worth £50.
DCC leader and cabinet member for culture Councillor Andrew Lewer said: “Libraries are changing and I hope people will use National Libraries Day to see what we have to offer, particularly if you have not popped in for a while. You might be surprised.
“We have 45 libraries and 11 mobile libraries which stock a wide range of books and reference titles, many also have DVDs.
“There are all sorts of events going happening every week, from storytimes for children to talks by popular authors, poetry events and even music.”
Forty-two of the county council’s 45 libraries are open every Saturday and they will be welcoming everybody on the day. Many libraries also open late during the week and all have computers with free access to the internet.
As well as stocking a wide range of fiction and non-fiction, modern works and the classics, the authority’s libraries also have reference works and information services. Some rent out DVDs.
So, even if you haven’t popped into one for a while, why not help celebrate National Libraries Day in Derbyshire and see how things have changed.
