Karine's earthly spells
SCOTS songwriter Karine Polwart (winner of 'Best Original Song' at the BBC Folk Awards) will be combining folk storytelling tradition with compassionate lyricism at her gig at Buxton Opera House on Monday November 9 at 7.30pm.
Her debut album Faultlines, which won Best Album at the 2005 BBC Folk Awards, was followed by the more lush and polished Scribbled in Chalk.
After the birth of her son in 2007, she brought out two more extraordinary albums: Fairest Floo'er, a dark and intimate collection of Scottish traditional songs, and a bittersweet collection of original songs, This Earthly Spell (nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009 for Singer of the Year and for Best Album).
All four of her solo albums have proved she's a singer and a writer able to combine ancient traditions with sharp contemporary observations and an independent sensibility.
The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets for Karine Polwart & Her Band are priced at 15 and 17 and discounts are available.
