Diagnosis laughter as the Doctor arrives
ONE of the most well loved comedy series' of the 20th century, Doctor in the House, by Ted Willis from Richard Gordon's original books will be performed at Buxton Opera House from Wednesday 9 to Saturday 12 April.
The story follows the inexperienced young medical student Simon Sparrow as he begins his five-year internship at St Swithin's Teaching Hospital where he continually runs foul of the irascible head surgeon Sir Lancelot Sprat.
His social life is spiced up when Sparrow is taken under the wings of two student repeaters – Tony Grimsdyke and John Evans, who've flunked their prelims and are seeking a second chance.
The stage adaptation of one of the most popular British book, film and TV franchises of the 20th century is comic nostalgia at its very best, sure to be as well-loved as its original forms have become.
With humour very similar to that of the early Carry On films, this brand new production promises to be no exception as we follow the off-duty lives of the medical students – their happy triumphs and brave failures, love affairs and parties.
The show stars Eric Potts (Digory Compton in Coronation Street) as Sir Lancelot Sprat, Damian Williams and Grace Adams-Short of Big Brother 7 fame.
Buxton Opera House audiences now have the opportunity to be transported back to the early years of the NHS and enjoy the gentle, observational comedy that entertained generations.
Evening performances begins at 7.30pm and the matinees starts at 2.30pm.
Tickets for Doctor in the House are priced from 10 to 16 and discounts are available. For further details or to make a booking please call the Box Office on 0845 127 2190.
