Charity concert on Carnival Day

THE FAMOUS Buxton Crescent will reflect the sounds of five local acts who will be performing a Carnival Day concert in aid of charity.

The free show, between 5pm and 8.30pm on Saturday July 11, will include acts which are varied in style and age.

There are 'well seasoned' old rockers and blues artists, together with younger originals and covers bands.

Long in the Tooth

Long in the Tooth is the self-effacing name of the High Peak's longest reigning and highly popular rock band.

This is the band's fourth appearance; they were on the bill in 2005 and also opened the concerts in 2007 and 2008.

Absent Minded

An exciting young band formed with this line up in early February, but have been playing together since February 2008, with some more members and a different band name.

There are four members: Max Abendstern, lead vocals; Joll Verso, bass guitar; Elliot Verso, lead guitar; and Rob Hawkins, drums. Their songs are 'musey' covers plus originals.

Crossfire

'Crossfire' is a sensational and seasoned four piece band which is aiming to appear all over the North West like a rash!

The band consists of: Stuart Browning, lead guitar and vocals; Chris Milward, bass guitar; Andy Heart, drums; and new member Ric Bateman on guitar, keyboards and an odd song

As well as a great dollop of Hendrix, this bunch will be performing other rock tunes from this era (a little Credence perhaps?)

Food, Clothes, Medicine

Food, Clothes, Medicine are back with a set of chug-along originals.

Fronted by songwriter Patrick Smith, they'll be serving up some tasty tunes to get you into the carnival spirit.

The Scavengers

Buxton and High Peak band the Scavengers perform their own brand of rock and blues.

They started out in June 2007 and currently comprise of: John, skinbeater; Vic, lead guitar; Spleen, wailer and show-off; and Nic 'The Badger', guitar tamer.
