WHEN Chapel Players first started, flapper dresses were coming into fashion, jazz was on the wireless, and Charlie Chaplin films were everywhere.

Ninety years later things are very different but Chapel Players are still going strong, and they’re delving into history to celebrate their 90th anniversary in style.

They’re bringing a classic TV comedy to the stage, M*A*S*H, which was made famous by Alan Alda in the 1970s.

Based in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in South Korea during the Korean War, M*A*S*H follows the exploits of three reluctant army doctors: Captain “Hawkeye” Pierce (Andrew Hearfield-Hodgson), Captain “Duke” Forrest (Stephen Kettle), and Captain “Trapper” John McIntyre (Joe Hall) as they deal with army authority, entertain the nurses, and run various scams to raise enough money to pay for the schooling of their favourite Korean houseboy.

Other characters appearing include: Major “Hot Lips” Houlihan (Sheila Rowley) an uptight Chief Nurse, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake (Chris Mason) the camp’s commanding officer, Captain Walt Waldowski (Ian Fairley) the camp’s dentist and Corporal “Radar” Reilly (Tim Hodgkinson), a medical orderly with super-sensitive ears.

Help Chapel Players celebrate their 90th anniversary by going along to see M*A*S*H at the Playhouse, Eccles Road, on May 13,14, 20 and 21.

Performances start at 7.45pm.

Tickets are available from Halls Mica Hardware, 116 Market Street, Chapel-en-le-Frith, 01298 812260 and are priced at £7.50 for adults and £5 for concessions.
