Bigger than ever

Plans are well underway for this year’s 19th International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival.

The annual celebration opens in Buxton on July 27 and will run until August 18.

And to coincide with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, this year’s event will open with a special Victorian theme over the opening weekend.

“It’s going to be bigger than ever,” says Festival Director Ian Smith.

“In addition to 29 full-scale productions and performances in the Opera House, we will be introducing a new University Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in the Pavilion Arts Centre with full performances from half a dozen of Britain’s leading university musical theatre groups.”

Organisers are seeking accommodation for the entire Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company cast for one, two or three weeks of the festival.

“We are now looking to rent houses in Buxton during the period,” said Mr Smith.

“We are particularly interested in three or four bedroom houses that might be available – within a 15 minute walk of the Opera House.

We have also had a number of requests this year for ‘home hospitality’ visits.”

Anyone interested in renting accommodation, or offering some home hospitality, is invited to email sarah@gsfestivals.org or call 01422 323252.

Full programme details can be found at www.gsfestivals.org.
