An adventure in the Hope Valley
SELECTIONS from some of the best UK adventure films from the past 12 months will be screened as part of the fourth annual Hope Valley Adventure Film Festival (HVAFF) next month.
The festival on Saturday February 9 will be hosted by Hope Valley College, where two dedicated ‘cinemas’ will run throughout the day.
A range of family activities will also be on offer including a film-making competition, indoor caving, a bouldering competition, slacklines and time trails on the college’s state-of-the-art outdoor mountain bike track.
Proceeds from the not-for-profit event will go towards improving college facilities.
Organiser Neil McAdie said: “This has quickly become a popular event on the local calendar and this year promises to be an exciting occasion for both families and adventure pursuit enthusiasts alike.
“The range of films and activities on offer provide something for everybody, and with all proceeds going towards improving facilities at Hope Valley College it is a superb opportunity to have a fun-filled day while also supporting your local community.”
A major attraction this year is the evening lecture by the ‘Wideboyz’ Tom Randall and ex-Hope Valley College student Pete Whittaker.
The Wideboyz rock climbing lecture details the intense training and adventure required for them to make the ground-breaking first ascent of the world’s hardest off-width climb - ‘Century Crack’ in the USA.
Delivered with humour and humility, this inspiring lecture will be illustrated with images and film clips from the Wideboyz’s award-winning film which will also be showcased throughout the day.
Tickets for the day are £10 for adults and £5 for under-18s, with under-fives admitted for free. Special family offers also available. Tickets for the evening lecture are available for £6.50.
To buy tickets and to view the full schedule, visit www.hvaff.co.uk. Tickets are also available over the counter at Outside in Hathersage or at Hope Valley College on the day.
