I HAVE just been reading in my copy of Insight that DCC are to use DNA testing to try to catch and reduce the incidences of fly tipping throughout the county.
In my opinion, it would be better to concentrate on providing suitable recycling sites where people could conveniently go with their waste instead of throwing it in a lay-by or over a farmer's wall.
When are we going to see any progress, maybe eve
n completion, of the proposed site on Waterswallows Road?
At the moment people in Buxton have to go to Glossop. What a crazy situation.
I read that it costs us £1 million pounds to clear up fly tipping. Why not just collect people's unwanted mattresses, etc, for nothing instead of charging per item?
This may be much more cost-effective and stop people fly-tipping.
In France, where I live for several months each year, there are waste disposal sites within easy reach.
The sites are supervised by one person, everything is sorted and the site is immaculately clean. Why are we so behind in Buxton?
Incidentally, for a county council telling us of their efforts to be green, how many trees were cut down and how much fuel was used to produce and distribute Insight, and how many of the issues of this self-congratulatory publication went straight into recycling or the dustbin?
