IMAGINE having to sell everything and give up your way of life and livelihood.
On Saturday May 24 a farm is sold in Tideswell and a family moves on.
But this is not a real life tragedy in the village, but a true story played out on Tideswell's stage when New Perspectives Theatre Company return with their latest production
The Farm.
The Farm is based on Richard Benson's best selling book of the same name. It is a true story of the end of an era, when the family farm is sold because of mounting debts. Touring since its premier in April at the Lakeside Theatre, Nottingham, this is yet another New Perspectives hit. It is getting fantastic reviews, brilliantly acted.
New Perspectives' shows are getting better and better. Some of their other shows that have visited Tideswell include the sell-out The Hired Man – it's off to New York in the summer – In Search of Pontiflunk, On Saturday This Bed is Poland, and The Allotment. These plays have meant a great evening out. The plays are entertaining, thought provoking and full of humour.
The Farm is funny and uplifting, moving and sad at times. It's about how a family copes with its loss and how a prodigal son makes good.
Richard comes back up from his life in London to the family farm, back to the lost world of pigs and the English countryside, now changing for ever. How will his parents fare in their new life?
They've always been pretty resourceful. Can they meet the new challenges that life throws at them? More information about the play at
