Wilshaw denies Daniel the double

A MIXTURE of youth and experience prevailed in the Armitt Cup and Scratch Prize at Buxton and High Peak Golf Club last weekend.
Daniel Blackwell 22, fought the blustery conditions and posted a winning score of 146 to capture his second Scratch Prize trophy in three years. Declan O'Dwyer finished in second place with a score of 149.

A surprised Wilshaw Finney denied Blackwell a double victory by deservedly winning the Armitt Cup with a total score of 141. Paul Waring finished in third place.

Divisional prizes were also awarded to Wayne Reynolds, Carl Mycock, Ian Patterson, Andy Bailey, Carl Downings and Johnnie Cousins.

Adrian Dolan and Paul Thomas scooped the best morning and afternoon rounds

Both the Armitt Cup and Scratch Prize competitions are played over 36 holes, with the Armitt Cup being presented to the best placed handicap golfer on the day.

n A member of Buxton and High Peak Golf Club's Interclub Foursomes Final team claimed the Presidents Prize on Saturday.

Ron Clark, a former Club Captain, scored 40 points in the Stableford competition, beating Richard Taylor and Jim Wright who finished in second and third place respectively.

During their round, over 100 members enjoyed the hospitality of Club President Tony Gee, who provided refreshments in the marquee by the side of the tenth tee.

The favourable weather continued throughout the weekend for the Gents Open 4AM the following day.

Again a full field was able to enjoy a course in fantastic condition. Visiting members S Leigh, J Hickey, P James and A Hassan claimed first prize with a score of 126.

Home member Mike Whalley, along with his team B Whalley, D Sturman and A Mellors, finished second with 128, narrowly beating Reg Taylor, Barry Harpur, Barry Crawford and Vince McGuire on the back nine holes.

n The juniors at Buxton & High Peak Golf Club played in the Chadwick Trophy, sponsored by Mr and Mrs Chadwick who provided a refreshment tent for all taking part.

Results: 18 Hole: winner, Thomas Guess; 2nd, Kim Bradbury; 3rd, Jake Bagshaw. 14 Hole: Winner, Dean Wagstaffe; 2nd, Ben Marsden; 3rd, Sarah Nadin. No juniors entered the 10 Hole competition.

Juniors from Buxton and High Peak also played in the presidents competition on Saturday.

Results: 18 Hole: 1st, Scott Malpass; 2nd, Alex Guess. 14 Hole: 1st, Ben Higgins; 2nd, Dean Wagstaffe.
