Veteran Burgess captures trophy

A LONG-STANDING member of Buxton and High Peak Golf Club won the Buxton Trophy competition last Saturday.
Alan Burgess, a member at High Peak for nearly 15 years, shot a superb 83-19-64, to beat fellow members Andy Beers and Gerald Cunningham, by two shots.

Cavendish members, C Burgess and K Bloor, finished in fourth and sixth places respectively after battling the heat on the sun-drenched course.

Over 100 players took part in the event, which is contested annually by members of High Peak and Cavendish Golf Clubs.

* The Derbyshire Union of Golf Clubs Amateur Championship was played at Buxton and High Peak Golf Club last Sunday.

Jimmy Feeney, from Chapel-en-le-Frith, won the Championship Trophy with a terrific score of 134, while fellow Kedleston members A Oates and G Thacker, picked up the Union Shield in the team event.

High Peak member Declan O'Dwyer, qualified for the Derbyshire Union Match play event after his 147-06-141 score, in the sunny conditions.

High Peak vet Phil Godfrey won the vets prize after a 36 hole net total of 139.
