MEMBERS of Padfield Residents Society gathered together on Sunday morning to carry out a litter pick around Roughfields, Padfield Main Road area.
Several local residents came along and collected numerous bags of rubbish. Everyone was surprised by the number of empty beer cans that had been thrown into the small wood opposite the playing fields and very quickly they filled 10 dustbin bags.

Local High Peak Borough Councillor Peter Kay who came along armed with dustbin bags and gloves said: "It is a terrible state of affairs when people just abandon their rubbish like this, if only they could take it home it would make life so much easier and pleasant for everyone else".

County Councillor for the area, George Wharmby, who also came along added, "I would like to compliment the residents for their work this morning. To give up their Sunday mornings is a great effort and shows their commitment to the area."
