1 star only because we cannot give it a minus 5 star rating!!!. and even that would have been too generous for the appalling food that we were served with, it was so bad even the local swill man would not have taken it  We paid top price for these meals and the service and attitude of the staff and the owner was dreadful they seemed to think that it is a way of life and easy money to rip people off in this manner, they obviously have a steady supply of day trippers to take advantage of or this would not be a sustainable business if they had to rely on purely local people, who would avoid the place like the plague.on leaving the staff even stated that they were having a off day today and couldnt be bothered while taking our money with smiling faces. avoid at all costs for the sake of your stomach and your wallet.!!!.

I think some of these reviews are a little unfair, I agree that the prices are a little steep but the fish is fresh and cooked to order, I liked the mix of thick chunky chips and thinner ones and appreciate its hard to get great chips from new potatoes. The staff worked very hard whilst i was visiting and the ladies running it were very charming, the owner was on holiday so i was told, and a particular blonde lady was very nice chatting to my family and I whilst serving our lunch. I would have given 5 stars but i do think your prices are a little expensive.

we visisted this chippy on saturday 11/08/2012 it was horrendous! it took them 20 minutes to take our order even though there were only 3 other couples in the place, the food was stone cold and the burgers were like cardboard! my husband asked for them to be changed which they were, they didnt come back any better, as my husband started to eat his meal he found a huge piece of plastic in his chips, he took it back to them to see why it was there, the girl very abruptly took it off him and shoved it on the side, he can back to sit with me thinking they were changing it, 15 minutes later, still nothing, so he went back to the counter to see what was going on, only to be told they had taken it off the bill and when he asked if he could have some food he was told no by the manager and that his meal had been deducted from the bill, he then had to pay to get some chips just so he could have something to eat, it was a tiny portion from the bottom of the barrell (so to speak) it was disgustingly expensive for the tiny portions we had, the service was disgraceful and the attitude of staff and owner were dispicable, i would not reccomend this place to anyone, avoid at all costs!!

called in on saturday 21/7/12, ordered 3 x haddock chips and peas,2 soft drinks 1 water and one tea. to start off the fish was pathetic in size and the chips were the end of the line(bits) the peas were ok, when it came to paying the bill we were charged for large chips at £2.60(unbelievable) no choice given, bill came to £31.00, a total rip off and this place needs to be avoided at all costs. also just rechecked my bill which we had to ask for,the prices charged to not correspond to the prices on the menu, it seems that they think of a price on the day, there is a perfect opportunity for some one to open up a similar business and price this joint out of town.

Enjoyed the visit from the moment I walked in, I asked the manager for help finding a B&B for the night and she took it upon herself to call around most of them in Buxton and find me a suitable clean B&B for the night! Great service, I had a sauasge egg and bacon bap whilst here, I really enjoyed it, they did it how I asked; cannot fault!

Fantastic fish and chips, after reading the previous comments i feel it has been very unfairly judged.  Iappreciate its slightly pricey but we had the hake special (£7.50) and it was one of the nicest fish i've tried. We then went back for a breakfast the following morning (£5.75) well worth the money, i'd definitely come back.

Went in this ‘cafe’ yesterday and had reservations from moment I sat down. Ordered fish and chips/scampi and chips at £7.50 a head, which was high to start with. When it arrived, fish looked ok, but scampi well overcooked (like bullets), and can only describe chips as a plate of overcooked and greasy CRISPS. The waitress could clearly see that I did not eat them and told me would not be charged for them, so I was ok with that (it is your legal right to refuse to pay for something that you have not eaten, or so I am told). When I went to pay, the unhelpful owner/manager had other ideas, and told me I should have given them back. No thanks, I said, not to be given a plate of the same. Worst chippy I have ever been in and very pricey for what you get. Like being in a 1960’s time warp!!! Complete rubbish, which I would not even feed to my dog!!! Should be given ‘-1’ as the star and did not want to give it ‘1’

Had to give this 1 star although i begrudge doing that if anything i would want to give it a -5 as i was disgusted at the price of this place and to be honest the quality, we had a small chips and a measly little sausage for our little boy and me and my partner had pie (not pukka) and a supposed large chips and 2 cans of pop, £17.80, we were shocked, i would not even feed a dog this cack, yet when we went to matlock we went in to a little cafe and got a cracking meal for £10-78 and it was beautiful, also staff need some customer service training very rude girl behind the counter DON’T GO THIS CHIPPY ITS S**T
