I chose the Hydro Cafe because the board outside advertised all day breakfasts. I was put off by the badly stained tablecloth, dusty windowsill, the tired decor and the music, but we stayed as I was hungry. I was informed that it was too late for the all day breakfast (it was 2.45 p.m.) but was able to order a bacon and egg bap, which was satisfactory, but I did have to request a knife and napkin. My friend ordered chicken and vegetable soup, which turned out to be tinned cream of chicken soup with a single parsley leaf floating on it - £4.50! We had to ask twice for our drinks. When the bill came, I had been charged for a full English breakfast. What really amazed us was the brochure on the table, which made the place sound like an elegant venue, serving the finest food. It is many years since I have visited such a poor cafe.

Popped into the Hydro Cafe, whilst visiting Buxton last weekend. My impressions were overall very good. We were seated quickly and served very quick. No problems with our food but I suppose the music in the background was a little annoying. It is placed in a perfect location so if I do ever visit Buxton again I would use them again.

I was on my first visit to Buxton for nearly a year and visited the hydro cafe for lunch with my wife and two friends.

Once seated I noticed the table cloth was stained and rather grubby looking but after a short discussion we decided to stay and order.
My friends wine was poured by the waiter into a dirty glass and has something floating in it, when this was pointed out to the waiter he took the glass, thew away the already poured wine and gave clean glass but the no offer to replace the lost wine.
The food was severed prior to having our cutlery dumped on the table all in one pile.

The food order was three lasagne and one chilli with fries.
My wife's lasagna was stone cold in the middle so i told the waiter who without apology took the plate to the kitchen and announced quite loudly "the lasagna is cold is she's not happy"
Then after putting vinegar on my fries I noticed something about the size of a one pence piece floating in the vinegar, It looked like a piece of mold.
I was assured this is normal and was just the malt separating.
I have not yet checked this explanation out but I would suggest removing what ever it is before it reaches such proportions.

The lasagna once reheated in the microwave was OK but my Chilli really was second rate, lacking flavour and watery.

3 x lasagna, 1 x chilli, 2 small beers, 1 x wine, 1 x cup of tea.  Nearly £50 so it's not cheap ?either.
