THE GLAMOUROUS days of rail travel were re-lived in the High Peak last weekend as the Derbyshire Dalesman express steamed into Buxton from Blackpool.
Billowing smoke heralded the train's arrival, bringing locomotive enthusiasts through Bolton, Manchester and a seldom-used section of the Midland line through Chapel-en-le-Frith and Peak Forest.

Enthusiast David Pilkington said it was a glorious day, but bemoaned the lack of tourist information for visitors on their arrival in Buxton.

He said: "The many families and rail enthusiasts on board alighted and spent a few hours enjoying the historic town centre and shops before their return trip.

"If there had been an information point at the station the many first-time visitors would have been better able to find their way about Buxton."

He suggested the council and traders produce a leaflet to guide rail travellers around the town.

Another steam train is scheduled for November 10.
