ORGANISERS have hailed the success of this year's Tideswell Wakes Week – which culminated on Saturday with a bumper village carnival.
Crowds lined the streets to witness a procession packed with colour and flair, plus floats depicting an array of themes including the Flintstones, the seaside, sunny Ibiza and the circus.

And Philip Swarbrick, Chairman of Tideswell Wakes Committee, paid a glowing tribute to residents for their support in helping make it one of the best in recent years.

"From what I have seen over the last two years, Tideswell is certainly making a comeback and continues to go from strength to strength," he said.

"We enjoyed a fantastic procession on Saturday, really large, and the people of Tideswell have gone and done me proud."

A packed Tideswell Wakes Week programme this year included the traditional blessing of the wells, the popular torchlight procession, and a 'Tideswell's Strongest Man' competition.

Philip added: "The crowds of people we have had in the village this year have been phenomenal.

"It is all thanks to the people of Tideswell and the different committees, not just the Wakes Committee, who all do their bit and help make it such a wonderful week."
