DOVE HOLES celebrated the return of its carnival after an absence of 16 years with the village giving the event their full support.
The procession started from Katie's Diner, on the Buxton side of Dove Holes, before winding its way along the A6.
Following the parade there was the crowning of the Carnival King and a Court of Queens, a Dog Show as well as stalls and fairground rides.
Co-organiser Sally Tideswell said: "It was absolutely brilliant - better than we thought.
"There were a lot of people here which shocked us – we were only expecting about 500 people but there must have been 1,000 which is pretty good for the first one."
Organisers would like to say a big thank you to everyone who went along and took part and all those who helped ensure the carnival took place, with special thanks to Gemma Rivers, Pat Gregory from Dove Holes Groceries, Mark Blanchon, Jennie Parr, Chapel Fire Brigade, the visiting Queen, Buxton Mountain Rescue and all those who marshalled on the day.
The day was such a success that plans are already in place for next year's carnival which will be on August 22.
A meeting to start preparations for the 2009 event will take place on September 25.
