CHRISTMAS may be a time of giving gifts, but at Blythe House Hospice the gift of care continues all year round.
The High Peak charity hopes that residents will continue to provide vital support in 2008, and explains here how gifts made can really make a difference.

They have provided a few suggestions:

• For the wise investor….. a subscription to their Lottery or 49 Club provides an ongoing chance to win cash benefits.

• For the philanthropist….. a regular donation is of great value to them, or maybe you could become a sponsor or Friend of Blythe House?

• For those who are 'Time Rich'... explore becoming a volunteer in one of a vast range of roles both at the Hospice and in their shops; host or help at one of their fundraising events

• For those who are 'Time Poor'... learn from many of their supporters this year and give a donation in lieu of Christmas cards.

A donation of £15 provides an arts and crafts therapy or complementary therapy session and a vast range of resources to support guests?

It costs £6,000 to provide Outreach services taken to people in their own homes or fund a highly skilled nurse to work alongside guests at the hospice.

To completely fund a children's counsellor and all the necessary resources for one day weekly for a full year and provide incalculable benefit for very many children and their families costs £8,000 a year.

You could also support their garden upgrade and renovation with a specific donation for a water feature or garden furniture.

Any donation that you give will be used carefully for the exclusive benefit and provision of specialist palliative care free of charge for local residents with life-threatening illnesses.

Ideas for the New Year

• Remember them in your Will, support their legacy week from January 21 2008

• Donate any unwanted Christmas gifts or items from your Spring Clean which could be used for fundraising raffles, tombolas or for resale in one of their three Charity Shops in Buxton, New Mills and Chapel-en-le Frith

• Let them help you lose weight and maintain your resolution…. they can use those unopened biscuits and sweets to enhance our Day Care guests' day

They are inviting residents to visit them in 2008 to attend one of their Open Mornings or Fundraising events and experience for themselves the 'Centre of Excellence' for people with life-threatening illness and their carers.

If you or someone you love would like to know more about the extensive services available free of charge for all local residents in the High Peak and Dales, please contact Blythe House on 01298 815388 or email: info@blythehouse.nhs.uk.
