THE WET weather failed to spoil the start of Buxton's Well Dressing Festival.
Click here for a picture slideshow from the Blessing of the Wells. On Sunday, High Peak's Deputy Mayor Cllr Tony Bingham and his wife Mary joined clergy and the 2007 royalty for the Blessing of the Wells.
Playing through the showers were both the town's brass bands, Burbage and Fairfield, as the procession made its way from St Anne's Church to the Market Place Well, the Children's Well, created by pupils from Buxton Community School, and on to St Ann's Well.
Although the crowds were slightly smaller than usual, due to the weather, those who gathered were impressed by the well dressing designs, celebrating the RAF, Buxton Civic Association and the centenary of the London Olympics.
Celebrations continued with the Crowning of the 2008 royalty at St John's Church by BBC TV's Colin Sykes.
In a moving ceremony, watched by family and friends, the 2007 royalty bowed out after a very successful year.
Retiring Queen Philippa Hartle, Personality Queen Saskia Borra and Rosebud Paige Farlam thanked their families for their support and said how much they had enjoyed the last year, and how proud they were to have represented the town.
