MORE than 8,000 people attended Hope Show on Bank Holiday Monday.
"A good day and thank heavens it didn't rain" commented Ian Randall, Show Secretary.
Show jumping had to be cancelled because of the wet weather leading up to Show Day, but the rest of the Show went ahead.

Strong teamwork by the livestock section meant a successful day for them. There was a good turnout of cattle, nearer the sort of numbers that were entered in the Show three or four years ago.

Entries were high in the hill breeds, Whitefaced Woodlands and blue-faced Leicesters; and strong in Highlands and Longhorns, a more recent class in the Hope Show.

Ayrshires provided the overall winner from Mr Batty of Hatton. Mrs Wain from Matlock won Beef champion. Mr Buckley won the Parkin Trophy for overall winner in the sheep classes, with a Suffolk breed.
Alpacas were a popular class at the Show and Alpaca short fleeces attracted lots of attention.

Fifty-five fleeces had been posted to stewards for judging – a large number from the North of England and Scotland.

Hope Valley Young farmers raised £3,000 for Hope Valley St Johns Ambulance, and the cheque was presented at the Show.

It was yet another successful Show for the vintage tractor section where there were 54 vintage tractors entered this year. Overall winner was Mr Higginson from Congleton, with his MF 35X tractor. There were ten Grey Fergusons and the winner was Colin Lawton of Sheffield. He has taken second prize twice – so perseverance pays.

The Horticultural section saw fantastic entries in cooking classes, mouth-watering lemon drizzle cakes, rich fruitcakes, delicious biscuits and stunning apple pies, to name just a few.

There was even a "Men and Boys Cooking Section" which was very successful and a delightful children's class, where they had made food in the shape of animals – a penguin and giraffe looked interesting!

Much of the food produce was auctioned at the end of the Show and lots of pocket money was spent as youngsters vied with the adults there to buy homemade cakes, jams and biscuits.

Hope show organisers would like to thank the public for once again coming to the Hope Show on Bank Holiday Monday and supporting the farming community.
