John Gilberthorpe from Chapel Players urges locals to consider treading the boards
SO SAID the Bard, Mr W Shakespeare, that is.
But the bit of the World Stage you and I act on can get a bit hum-drum at times, can't it? And the wider world of politics and disasters can be frankly depressing.
So take a break, enter a time warp, step out of yourself sometimes. Wouldn't you like to do or say something really outrageous? Or act in a way you never would or could in real life? Well you can! You just have to get up on stage and do it in front of an audience! You might find it a bit daunting, or maybe it's just what you have always wanted to do.
If you take the plunge, it can be a thrilling and rewarding experience and Chapel Players will give you all the encouragement and support you need to fulfil your dream.
We don't promise you a glittering career in the West End (although it might happen), but you will have a lot of fun and meet some nice friendly people to work and play with.
We have a genuine mix of young and well, er more seasoned members at the Players and cater for a wide range of tastes, whether you just want to be involved in our shows or whether it's the crazy whirl of parties and social activities that attracts you. Some have even found romance at the Players ..No promises though!
What sort of thing do we do? Anything from pantomime to musical shows, to farce and comedy, murder mystery and Ibsen. So whether you are into cross dressing and custard pies or high drama, Chapel Players could be just what you are looking for. Why not come and look us over, we don't bite (unless it's essential to the plot). Just give me a ring on 01298 815263 or email me at
john.gilberthorpe@btinternet.com.
Still not got over your stage fright? We have many active members of Chapel Players who don't choose to appear on stage at all, preferring to work front of house, looking after the audience, or backstage on lighting, props, costumes or make-up.
Those with practical inclinations are always welcome to take part in set construction and all the other tasks that are essential to the success of any production.
It's challenging, it's teamwork, it's fun, so go on, give it a try. Just now we are rehearsing a fast, funny and sexy comedy "Key for Two" why not come and see it on October 26/27 or November 2/3, 7.45pm at the Playhouse, Eccles Road, Chapel?
