TEN CANDIDATES have put their names forward for election onto the Bollington and Disley Ward of the newly-created Cheshire East Council.
The authority – bringing together the boroughs of Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe & Nantwich, and Cheshire County Council – will take over the running of local government services from the beginning of April next year.
When it does, it will beco
me the third largest unitary authority in the North West, covering a population of 358,900.
Elections will take place on May 1 to create a Shadow Council of 81 elected councillors, from 27 wards, which will prepare for the new council coming into existence.
Vivienne Horton, Cheshire East Returning Officer, said: "These elections are a real opportunity for the residents of Cheshire East to begin to shape the exciting future of local government in their area.
"Voting for someone to take forward the ambitions of your community and address the issues that affect you has never been more important."
Nominations closed last Friday, with a total of ten candidates putting their names forward for three vacant councillor spots in the Bollington and Disley Ward.
These are: Harold Davenport (Cons); Matthew Davies (Cons); Anne Jackson-Baker (Lab); David Laffan (Lab); Chris Makepeace (Lib Dem); Heidi Reid (Ind); Sylvia Roberts (Lib Dem); Shirley Sockett (Lib Dem); Gordon Sutton (Lab); Diana Thompson (Cons).
Serving a population of more than 14,000, the Bollington and Disley Ward will cover the communities of Disley, Kettleshulme, Lyme Park, Pott Shrigley, Rainow, Bollington and Higher Hurdsfield.
