CHRIS Jackson is racing into his new role as one of Disley's first Police Community Support Officers.
He has decided to compete in the ten kilometre Manchester Run on May 18 and donate his sponsorship money to two good causes in the village.

Chris said: "Both the local primary school and the local scouts are planning building projects and it seemed a good idea to help them out."

Chris and his colleague Andrea Garcia have just begun patrolling Disley as the village's first PCSOs, providing a visible police presence and supporting Community Action Team officer, PC Dave Jackson.

Andrea said: "People think of Disley as being very picturesque and a bit remote but, like everywhere else, it has issues which cause concern.

"We've heard about some anti social behaviour and vandalism, which is something we need to tackle.

"We've already dropped leaflets into houses on the Chantry estate encouraging people to let us know about any incidents, and give any background information they may have."

Other issues include under-age drinking, drug dealing, speeding on Buxton Old Road and parking on Market Street, added Andrea.

The PCSOs are part-funded by Disley Parish Council, whose Chairman Diane Guy said: "They are providing a wonderful resource for the community as a whole. It is what we have needed for a long time."

"Thanks to a refund on double taxation, for at least two years the two PCSOs will only cost a Band D householder about £3 a year in extra rates."
