OLD TYRES, bicycles, shopping trolleys and car batteries were the catch of the day for anglers taking part in a river clean-up in New Mills on Saturday.
Twelve members of Disley and New Mills Angling Club spent more than two hours hard at work in The Torrs, clearing rubbish away from the banks of the River Goyt.

Assisted by rangers from Derbyshire County Council's Countryside Service, the anglers filled a skip full of discarded items.

Club committee member Andrew Parker said:

"The Countryside Service was a fantastic help, providing us with the skip, tools, and even helping ferry the larger items in their pick-up truck.

"We were amazed by the amount of rubbish we removed.

"It looked a mess, but we seem to have made an impact and are now planning a second clean-up in August."
